Who is behind the grain of rice?

My name is Mark Douglas, I am 41-year-old happily married father of two daughters. We live in a small village in the Valencian region of Spain. We have been living here in Spain for the last few years. We originally moved to Spain from the UK to give our daughters a better quality of life and give them the chance to learn a new language and culture. The lifestyle here is much more relaxed than it is in England and the girls enjoy living here.

What is your motivation behind the grain of rice?

  • Unfortunately I am currently unemployed and need to pay the bills. I don't claim any type of benefits whatsoever so money is getting very tight. We really don’t want to have to move back to the UK and even if we did, we couldn’t afford to.

I want to prove to myself that I can make an income on my own without relying on the daily grind of a nine-to-five job. Don’t get me wrong; I’m not knocking a regular nine-to-five job, that’s what gave me the opportunity to move to Spain in the first place. I just feel now that I have managed to cross the first hurdle by moving to Spain, I now need to find a way on my own to stay here and give my family the better quality of life that I promised them before moving here.
  • Mahatma Gandhi
  • Trevor Baylis
  • Hopefully make some money along the way for a charity that helps towards saving the planet.

Do you have a counter to show how many grains have been sold?

Don't worry that is on my list of things to do. I have left a space at the top of the page to display a counter.

Do you count broken grains of rice?

If I find any broken grains of rice while counting, I will remove them and place them in to a container. Whenever I have two broken grains in the container that added together are the same size as a full grain I will remove them and place a whole grain back in to the packet of rice so that the rice count is as accurate as possible.

What will you do when you have sold all the grains of rice?

Hopefully the site will give me a chance to pay some bills and give me a little breathing space.
I have loads of ideas going on inside my head and if I sell the full packet of rice I will be able try out some of them.
I would also like to find some way of helping other people get their ideas off the ground.

How will I authenticate my certificate when you have sold all of the grains of rice?

Don't worry, when all of the grains have been sold I plan to keep the website running for years to come. I may place some advertising on the site to pay the running of it, although I am planning to put enough money to one side to cover at least the next ten years of hosting.

How do you write on a grain of rice?

Before the creation of this site I have never wrote on a grain of rice in my life. I have ordered a few pens to learn with and while I am designing the site I also plan to learn how to write on a grain of rice at the same time. Once I have learnt how to write on a grain of rice I will make the website live, so if you can see this webpage, you know that I have learnt how to do it.
